The Knot Gala 2017, New York City

Our team at Emily Clarke Events received the incredible honor of designing the eighth annual The Knot Gala, an event held each year at the New York Public Library at the end of Bridal Fashion Week. For this incredible party hosting wedding industry professionals from across the nation, we transformed the venue for our theme “Meet Me at Midnight,” with inspiration taken from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Over 1,000 guests attended the black-tie celebration.

The library’s grand entrance featured a live model dressed like a woodland fairy in stunning emerald green. Set amidst an abundance of ivy and purple blooms, gold butterflies, and a large gold crescent moon, we created this dramatic sight for street-view onlookers and guests alike before even entering the event. “In my head, the gala theme has always been ‘If Shakespeare Was a Millennial,’ Creative Director Emily Clarke told Ivy Jacobson and Maggie Seaver from The Knot. “I wanted to take a traditional theme and turn it on its head and add playful, unexpected elements for a more modern twist.”

The mystical ambience continued inside, with dramatic lighting, gorgeous florals in deep hues hanging from the ceiling, lush live trees throughout, and a stage draped in thick ivy. Our goal: To make guests feel as though they were entering an enchanted garden full of surprises. A live model in an emerald green fairy dress posed in our flower wall photo booth, and LED ballerinas with illuminated tutus graced the dance floor. LED butterflies flitted around the perimeter of the stage, as well. An additional photo booth included a luxe floral bathtub where guests could louge amidst oversized pearls and bottles of Perrier-Jouët champagne. Actors dressed as woodland creatures danced through the crowd on stilts. Models dressed as “floral statues” mingled with guests in extravagant headpieces and dresses made of pink and purple blooms. For another delightful touch, our team created a bar with a silver reflective exterior and etched “The Moonlight Made Me Do It” in gold cursive. Copper cupware and creative serving pieces such as flower pots, egg shells, and tiny wooden bowls added allure to the delicious meal served at food stations throughout the venue.

Jordan Kahn Music Company and DJ Jacob Co. provided lively entertainment to keep guests happily dancing the night away.

Our team at Emily Clarke Events will never forget the experience of creating such a fantastically whimsical gala, and we loved working with so many first-rate vendors who helped make the evening grand.
